Hygrometer is unreliable, after extensive testing comparing this Philips to 2 different portable industry-grade hygrometers from different brands and 2 other dehumidifiers in same price range range. All are within 5% RH of each other, except the Philipps which is sometimes close to 20% lower. Would not be an issue by itself, except that the Philips machine does not operate below target of 40% (then you need to activate the loud laundry mode)m soi if the room is at 60% RH but the Philips thinks it's at 40% then it will stop by itself at the lower target of 40%. The buttons on top are super user-friendly; you immediately understand how it works. We have it in the bathroom, where the ventilation is terrible and there's no window to air it out. Two things stand out about this device: a big plus and a serious minus. First, the minus: the noise. Even on the quietest setting, it's still too loud. Not relaxing when you're quietly brushing your teeth or removing your makeup in the evening. The sound is simply annoying. But then the plus: it dries the room incredibly quickly! Our previous, smaller dehumidifier took ages to do the same thing. What do we do now? We turn it off briefly when we're in the bathroom and then turn it back on so it can do what it does best. The automatic mode is also really handy. It automatically detects when the air is humid, then works harder, and switches back to the lowest setting once it's dry enough. But honestly, that sound makes us hesitate. Should we keep it or not? It remains a dilemma.
