With the Sony ULT Tower 7, I turn every place into a party. The speaker delivers powerful and full sound. With the ULT button, I ensure powerful bass tones, allowing the beat to create an energetic atmosphere. It is just inconvenient that the speaker does not have a fold-out handle.

Powerful and full sound The speaker delivers powerful and full sound in the standard FLAT setting. The high, mid, and bass tones sound balanced. When listening to pop music, I find this balanced sound pleasant to listen to for extended periods. With the ULT button, I choose from 2 settings. In the ULT1 setting, bass tones sound firmer, allowing me to hear the beat of the music clearly. However, the bass tones do not overpower. I use this setting during parties because the bass tones create an energetic atmosphere. With the ULT2 setting, the emphasis is really on the bass tones. The high and mid tones of the instruments and vocals sound slightly less full. Therefore, I only use this setting when listening to techno or house music. That is when these genres really come into their own. In the app, I select the LIVE mode. With this, I hear a slight echo in the sound, and the emphasis is placed on the vocals. This makes the music sound as if it were live. The only annoying thing is that the music briefly interrupts when I switch modes using the ULT button.

Good size for any party The speaker is a good size for any kind of party. It is on the larger side and intended to fill a large room with music. Nevertheless, I can still lift it quite easily with someone's help. The speaker also has wheels, so I don't have to lift it all the time. It is just inconvenient that the built-in handle sits low down. As a result, I walk bent over when rolling the speaker. The built-in lights are atmospheric, but not bright enough to illuminate the room. There are rubber feet on the sides, allowing me to place the speaker on its side as well. I find this handy, as it allows for flexible positioning. In some rooms, the speaker fits better when standing on its side.

Extensive app

In the app, I choose from many different settings. In addition to choosing from the various sound modes, I can fully customize the sound to my liking with the 10-band equalizer. I turn on sound field optimization so that the speaker adjusts the sound based on the amount of noise it scans. This ensures the best sound. I also connect a second speaker via the app and configure what I want to do with the ULT button on the speaker. With the Party Pad, I choose from various sound effects. For instance, I add a horn sound or play only the high tones with the Isolator. I adjust the color of the lights with Party Light. If I connect microphones to the speaker, I control the sound per microphone in the Karaoke menu. Here too, I add effects such as a yell like ‘Come On!’.
