I am very enthusiastic about the new Fenix 8. Thanks to the bright AMOLED screen, this smartwatch has a more luxurious look than its predecessors. However, the Fenix 8 is also a thick and heavy smartwatch, just like all other Fenix models. You have to like this.
Bright AMOLED screen
The Garmin Fenix 8 is the first Fenix smartwatch with an AMOLED screen. In my opinion, the Fenix 8 looks more luxurious and impressive thanks to this bright and colorful screen. I can also easily read the screen when the bright sun shines on it. The touchscreen works smoothly and quickly. I quickly scroll through my settings and sports profiles.
Long battery life
An AMOLED screen normally costs a lot of battery. That is why I find it impressive that the battery life of the Fenix 8 is at least two weeks. Even the small 43 millimeter version lasts 12 days. I know few other smartwatches that can do this.
Size
Garmin Fenix smartwatches are always big and thick, so the Fenix 8 is too. The ring around the screen of the Fenix 8 is slightly thinner than that of its predecessors. This also makes the Fenix 8 slightly thinner than its predecessors. I think this is a good change. However, this Fenix model is still a large smartwatch. The 47 millimeter model is too big for my narrow wrist of 14 centimeters in circumference.
New sports options in Garmin Coach
With the Garmin Coach program, I choose a training program with which I improve my results. Previously, I could only choose between running and cycling. Now strength training has also been added. I think this is really cool. I like to get some guidance in building more muscle strength. I follow a training program of 4 to 6 weeks for this. Each training consists of different strength exercises. This way I learn which exercises help with muscle building. The other programs have also been expanded with the option 'get fitter'. This means I don't train for a specific distance or time, but to become generally fitter. This gives me several workouts to do in a week. That keeps it fun.
Microphone and voice assistant
The Fenix 8 has a built-in speaker and microphone. I could already make calls with the Fenix 7, but now I can also play music out loud. In addition, there is now also a voice assistant. This took me some time to get it right, but it does work. To be honest, I don't really use that function. I find it easier and faster to do what I want myself via buttons or the touchscreen.
