How do you descale your Krups EA8150 and EA8178?

We'll explain how to descale the Krups EA8150 and EA8178 in 3 steps. We recommend you to descale the Krups coffee machine in time. That way, you can prevent clogging and defects. Descale your fully automatic machine once every 4 months if you're using a water filter. If you don't use a water filter, descale it once every 2 months. Use the descale by Krups for this. It will take you about 30 minutes to descale the Krups EA8150 and EA8178. These are the steps we'll go through:

You need:

  • Krups descaler
  • 600ml container

How often should you descale?

When it's time to descale your Krups coffee machine, it will give you a signal. This is about once every 4 months if you use a water filter. If you don't use a water filter, this is once every 2 months. We recommend you to use the descaler by Krups. This cleaner is specially made for your Krups fully automatic machine.

Prepare the descaling

Step 1: prepare the descaling

  1. On the display, you'll see an icon appear when you need to descale the machine. Press the cogwheel and use the arrow keys to navigate to 'descale'. This is the icon with the triangle and droplets underneath.
  2. Take the water tank out of the machine and remove the water filter.
  3. Empty the water tank and fill it with fresh water up to the 'Calc' mark.
  4. Pour the bag of descaling powder in the water and put the water tank back into the machine.
  5. Place a container of at least 600ml under the coffee outlet and steam wand.

Step 2: descale the machine

  1. Press the 'Start' button to start the first descaling fase.
  2. After about 8 minutes, the symbols with the tap and the droplet will flash.
  3. Remove the container, empty it, and put it back under the coffee outlet and steam wand.
  4. Take the water tank out of the machine. Rinse it thoroughly and fill the water tank with water up to the 'Max' mark.
  5. Put the full water tank back into the machine.

Step 3: rinse the machine

  1. Press the 'Start' button to start the second descaling phase. This will take about 6 minutes.
  2. The icon with the tap and the icon with the droplet will stay on when the machine is done rinsing.
  3. Take the container and drip tray out of the machine, empty both parts, and put them back.
  4. Take the water tank out of the machine and put the water filter back.
  5. Put the water tank back into the machine.
  6. Press the 'Start' button for the lat time to have the coffee machine rinse for a second time.
  7. When the machine is done rinsing, the icons with the tap and droplet will stay on.
  8. Empty the container and the drip tray.
  9. Put the drip tray back into the machine.
  10. Your Krups fully automatic machine is now ready for use.
