What types of Synology apps exist?
If you have a Synology NAS, it runs on DiskStation software by default. There are apps available for this operating system that allow you to make the functions of your Synology NAS easier and expand them. In addition, you can control it remotely with your iOS or Android device. With these 4 apps, we'll help you on your way.
What do you need?

All apps
The Synology operating system DiskStation is so extensive that there are dozens of apps for it. These are also known as packages. Visit the Synology website or the app environment of your Synology NAS to view those. For your mobile device, go to the Android Play Store or the Apple App Store. Do you use a Windows computer? You'll find the Synology apps in the Windows Store.
DS Video and Video Station
Via the DS Video app, you can stream your media library from the Video Station app on your NAS to your smartphone, tablet, and computer. The program has a very clear interface. You can see your video files listed at a glance. You can sort and group your videos here. The app automatically retrieves information like the title, episode numbers, movie cover, and actors. If your NAS supports transcoding, the DS automatically converts unsuitable video formats into readable files. So you can watch any video file via your NAS.
DS Photo and Photo Station
With DS Photo, you can view all photo files that are on the Photo Station app on your Synology NAS. So you can store holiday photos, selfies, and graphic footage. This doesn't require storage from your mobile device or computer. With the backup function, you can copy your mobile photos to your NAS. Want to share photos without a network connection? Make a selection for on the go beforehand. You can also sort and label photos via the app. And you can share group photos and albums directly via email or with a link.
DS Cam and Surveillance Station
DS Cam is an app you use to watch footage of connected IP cameras in the Surveillance Station app on your phone or tablet. You can make snapshots or control your IP camera remotely, for example. In addition, you get notified of movements via the DS Get app. This function does depend on the support of your IP camera. You can only use this function if your cameras have a motion sensor.
DS Get and Download Station
Via DS Get, you can control downloads in the Download Station app on your Synology NAS remotely. You can pause or cancel downloads and set priorities and download schedules. So you can manage downloads on the go and open them right away when you get home or to the office. Via the integrated browser and Chrome integration, you can even look up downloads and start them in the Download Station app on your NAS.
