Netgear R7800 Nighthawk X4S Smart Wi-Fi Gaming Router:
”High Speed Streaming, Gaming on the Highway”
I have had this router for a week now. There is one in the attic as an AP and one below the ground floor.
These routers are a replacement for the R7500V1. When the routers arrived, I got to work. Opened the box and I immediately noticed that the antennas are of good and improved quality as the predecessor, you immediately feel that you have something solid in your hand.
Before I set up the router, I first set it to factory settings (factory default) and then get to work. I also do this with a new firmware update. Each FW has its own configuration.
I had set up the AP within ½ hour, and I immediately noticed that Netgear has tinkered a lot under the hood, the interface is lightning fast when processing and adjusting the settings! Once ready, the bits and bytes flew around my ears, the Wi-Fi is good on both bands and responds super fast, The sites load quickly, what a difference from the previous router.
Half way through the evening my daughter comes rushing down the stairs and asks what happened to the Wi-Fi, I say why and was a bit shocked!
YouTube is super fast on the phone she says! So I'm not the only one who noticed this
My daughter always complained in the past, Dad that Wi-Fi of yours is 3 times nothing, you don't blow that bubble yet!
After I set up the AP, I started working on the Main router later in the evening.
This arrangement takes more time, DHCP zone is set up and fixed IP for the other device (25) based on MAC address, Port forwarding, etc. (nowadays every device has Wi-Fi in it)
Also here it is noticeable that the interface is lightning fast, I am not used to Netgear by the way.
There are quite a few changes in Netgear's firmware, so it's clearly tinkered and prepared for the Future! (a new journey)
After an hour I have everything up and running. The performance of the Wi-Fi is immediately noticeable, the sites are also loaded significantly faster on the older laptop pen! In the backyard the Wi-Fi is still good, unbelievable what a range TOP.
Although I don't game, I gave the R7800 a lot of speed by turning on 10 devices and creating an overload of network traffic; streaming video on demand, internet, YouTube, speedtest, downloading a file of a few GB, etc. Everything that requires performance. This then on 2 levels at the same time, at the AP and the Main router! (wired and one Air) The R7800 had no problem with this and could handle the flow of information well! The test is all passed, in any case no alarm bells have gone off.
The stability of the R7800 has remained good throughout the week, no disconnections have been experienced and the Wi-Fi signal is immediately picked up by the device! The 2* USB Ports 3.0 and the Satashare on the side are easily accessible (you don't have to crawl behind the router) and the reading performance is good!
Conclusion:
So far very satisfied with this R7800, and certainly with the new turbo engine in the device 1.7 GHz processor, and support for the new Wi-Fi capabilities (Multi-userÂ's-MIMO)
For the rest it is really a wonderful device to work with. He gets a big 10 from me.
Netgear has then started a new phase with the R series, or Next Generation Racing Giants
