According to our NAS expert
Create a personal cloud to access your own files from anywhere in the world.
Thanks to the Quad-Core processor, this drive can handle multiple demanding tasks like streaming 4K videos and making backups.
Plex allows you to watch any movie from your personal cloud on your smartphone, tablet, PC, or smart TV.
This device doesn't have an HDMI port to connect it directly to your TV or monitor.
The device doesn't support RAID setups to safely store your files.
With the WD My Cloud Home 6TB NAS, you can view all your photos, videos, and 4K movies on all your devices. As opposed to a classic external hard drive, you can connect the My Cloud Home to your home network. Set up a personal cloud and access your files from anywhere in the world. This way, you can stream a movie from your smartphone to your smart TV or share holiday pictures with all of your travel companions. With the app, you can create automatic backups from your tablet or phone to your own hard drive. The drive is plug & play. You can easily install the My Cloud Home via your phone or tablet.
I've digitized my entire movie/series collection so I no longer have to grab DVDs/BDs to watch.
I would like to be able to stream anywhere in the house on any device with this device.
I connected the WD My Cloud Home in the meter box directly to the router. As a test I put a 1 season of a series on the my cloud (transfer from PC via Network is VERY slow despite 1 gig network with correct cabling) a faster option is to put the files on an external HD and connect it via USB to the MyCloud.
Loading a movie via WD's APP itself is very easy, (you don't actually need Plex for your smartphone) but VERY slow, if you want to fast-forward, you'll have to wait another minute for it to finish load.
The WD certainly has advantages, but I send the My Cloud back to Cool Blue because of its (slow) speed and that everything is online and must be done. (you do not have the option as far as I could find to only have access to the My Cloud if you are also connected to the network/wifi connection)
