Solid NAS with excellent performance

For the imaging: the DS218 is for me the successor of the DS212J, which I have used with pleasure for over 5 years and still functions well (and still receives software updates!).

General: The DS218 is a nice NAS, equipped with an excellent Quad-core CPU, which does support Plex, unlike what can be found on the internet. The ANS has the same CPU as the DS218 play, so it supports hardware video transcoding.

Usage: Both disks can be easily inserted and removed. The system supports various RAID options, and Synology also has its own variant: SHR. So far I've had a great performance with it.

Software: At the moment I am running on the NAS, the operating system of Synology: DSM 6.2. You sometimes have to search, because not all adjustable options are easy to find, but if you have everything in order, it is a useful interface. The possibilities are enormous and you can expand the functionality by means of an Appstore-like environment.

Safety: It is very important that Synology provides a quick software patch, if a new software bug or security problem is known (again). The information on the disks can be stored encrypted.

Performance: I have placed 2 Western Digital RED hard drives in the NAS.
