According to our smartwatch expert
You'll know for sure whether you're ready for the next workout thanks to the daily recovery score.
With the EDA sensor, you get insight into your stress level and can take action to reduce it.
The smartwatch includes 6 months of Fitbit Premium, which gives you more insight in and advice on your health.
Some functions don't work without a Fitbit Premium paid subscription.
This watch strap doesn't last as long as the straps of other smartwatches.
With the Fitbit Charge 5 Black, you can develop healthy routines and maintain them. This stylish activity tracker measures more than just your steps and calories burned. The Daily Readiness Score function from Fitbit Premium shows how your body recovers from a workout. If you have a low score, your body needs more time to recover. Thanks to the EDA sensor, you get insight into your stress management. Is your score low? Time for a breathing exercise to control your stress. Thanks to the ECG app, you can also make cardiograms from your wrist. At night, the Charge 5 measures how long and deep you sleep. In addition, you can make contactless payments with Fitbit Pay and the built-in GPS sensor tracks your route while you work out.
Note: a charger isn't included. Do you want to charge the watch via a socket? Use the charger of your smartphone or order a separate charger.
This watch is recommended for a wrist circumference of 13 to 15cm.

I was allowed to test the Fitbit Charge 5 for a while and was pleasantly surprised by the possibilities of this activity tracker. It takes some getting used to if you normally wear a smartwatch or larger watch, but the Charge 5 does have all the essential functions.
Stylish appearance, bright color screen The Charge 5 is the first Charge with a color screen. This ensures lively animations on the bright AMOLED screen. Thanks to different watch faces, I adapt the tracker to my own style. There are more watch bands available for the Charge 5, so I can easily personalize it with those too.
All the important functions in a slim watch The Fitbit Charge 5 has all the essential features an activity tracker should have, and then some. Of course he measures my heart rate all day long. It tracks my daily steps and how many minutes I'm in my active heart rate zones. Thanks to the built-in GPS sensor, I leave my smartphone at home when I go for a walk or run. The Charge 5 keeps track of my route. When I get home, I sync the tracker with the Fitbit app on my smartphone and view my route, miles traveled and my average heart rate.
Measure stress from wrist I like to monitor my stress level. This way I know exactly when I need to relax, to prevent, for example, from getting a headache. Like the Fitbit Sense, the Fitbit Charge 5 has an EDA scanner. This scanner measures my stress management score. Do I have a low score? Then I can do better breathing exercises to get my stress under control again.
Fitbit Premium I already knew Fitbit Premium and it is very nice that you get 6 months for free with the purchase of a Fitbit Charge 5. This health platform provides even more insight into your health. For example, you can easily request extensive reports about your stress management and your sleep via the Fitbit app on your smartphone, and receive advice on how to improve your health. You also gain insight into trends in your health data.
Water lock not easy The Charge 5 is water resistant and has a water lock. This ensures that water does not run into the tracker. You activate this in the menu by tapping it twice. But the tracker doesn't always respond well to that. You also do not have extensive insight into your previous workouts on the tracker. You can only view this on your smartphone.

My girlfriend has a watch, a very nice one that tells her what time it is. He's been doing it for many years but she never wears it. Recognizable? She wants a sporty case because she is working on her fitness these days.
She asked me to choose a sporty watch for her. “One that fits on my wrist… please” was the order, the request. That extra request came because she usually finds “sporty” watches too big. I myself have a square from a well-known brand. Too big and too square! Find them.
She has a very narrow, thin wrist case. So there had to be something rectangular. She can tell the time very well so that was already in order. She is active so we have a direction. But she also wanted insight into the development of her performance. She rows…
Complicating is that she has no interest in the technology of computers, smart watches and the like, so it had to be an intuitively operable case.
I eventually came across a Fitbit that is said to meet the requirements. Now I saw that a new model would be released and after much deliberation I ordered it in advance. Last week the watch, the tracker was delivered. She put it to use and didn't want to take it off. She likes it that way. After some begging, because of my research efforts, very exceptionally, I was allowed to try the watch (no, the tracker) for a day and now I want it too.
The screen; I thought you wouldn't see anything on that, but that's very different. The display is very clear and therefore easy to read, clear and indeed intuitive to operate. Everything you could possibly need is there and even GPS is available. Can't lose them or get lost.
I was confused for a while, the Fitbit Charge 5 is called a Tracker every time. I love watches but apparently it isn't. The fact that you can see the time on it is of secondary importance to them. This is not apparent because, as mentioned, the display is easy to read. It's mainly about tracking your performance. And they are very adjustable. You can easily set your challenges and schedules and get a good insight into their progress.
As a user of that well-known other brand, the battery lasts a very long time. For over a week now. The manual states that it is good to take off the tracker every now and then. So if you give the tracker a (same?) day off every week, it can charge and recharge nicely.
I want one too. A new (square!) model from that well-known brand will be released next week, but I actually like the Fitbit Charge 5 better. The Charge 5 is much more focused on the goals and achievements and less on "smart watch" play. The sleep functions is very good. Provides very good insights into your sleep pattern and its quality.
But the most important quality of the Fitbit Charge 5 is that you are challenged, motivated to push your goals upwards. Good for physical well-being. Can be very tiring but….that's what we have the sleep function for.

As a successor to my Charge 4 I bought the 5. Assuming to make a leap forward. Not that the 4 is bad. On the contrary, it is the reason for purchasing the Charge 5, but after a few months of use, I am back to my trusted Charge 4. The Charge 5 looks fine (4 is tougher). Under the tap, the touchscreen 'runs' and before you know it you are practicing or giving error messages for something it has not been able to measure. Apparently I sleep worthless according to the thing, because I am sleeping on average 3 hours later than I went to sleep. Actually, I hope there will be a good update soon and until then I'll leave the Charge 5 alone for a while.
