It heats up quickly, and once warm it works easily. I don't recognize that it runs out quickly. I have medium length hair and an annoying curl, but I can easily manage it wirelessly. What you have to teach yourself with these pliers is to style slowly. I was used to going over a strand three times, once quiet is enough. The outside does not get hot, so no problems with the ear.
