The Synology 8T was out of stock, so I ordered another brand of hard drives. I couldn't install it, so now I have to order Synology drives because they're back in stock.
So be careful: only choose Synology drives!

After buying the 1522+ for myself last year, we bought the 1525+ for my son this year. We opted for the Synology hard drives because he didn't have any hard drives yet. Synology has since lifted the restrictions on drives from other brands, but when comparing prices, we couldn't really see any difference between Synology's Plus series and similar Seagate or WD drives. For peace of mind, we opted for the Synology drives. The specifications are more than adequate for this NAS. DSM remains the ideal system, but the competition is catching up...

I used a DS214 and DS218 for a long time, but those days are over. The DS1525+ is a world of difference: five bays, a fast processor, and M.2 slots for caching. DSM simply does what it's supposed to do, as always.
Just be aware: at launch, you could only use Synology drives. Fortunately, after a lot of hassle, they reversed that, so just putting your own IronWolf or WD Red in works fine.
If you are still using an old 2-bay NAS: just go for it.
